CFB 27 dynasty blueprintBy Steve Brooks

What CFB 27's Dynasty Blueprint Actually Changes

EA revealed College Football 27's Dynasty overhaul on June 4, and The Athletic called it dynasty's biggest change in over 20 years. They're right. For the first time, your dynasty isn't a recruiting arms race you sim through. It's a budget game. You earn a finite pool of points each season and decide where it goes: coordinators, facilities, or paying players. Whether you're rebuilding a G5 program or chasing a title at a blue blood, that one shift rewires how you play.

Recruiting talent still matters. But the players who win in CFB 27 are the ones who manage the budget best.

What's New at a Glance

TL;DR

  • Dynasty Points budget: Earn an annual pool of points; spend it on Staff, Facilities, or NIL; points do NOT roll over.
  • AD Expectations: Your boss sets three goals per season; miss them consistently and you get fired.
  • School Demeanor: Each program has a personality (Patient, Balanced, Impatient); affects job security and point availability.
  • Two-sided NIL: Recruiting NIL lands players; Roster NIL keeps them. Both compete for the same budget.
  • Facilities tiers: Five-tier system (Basic to National Powerhouse); tiers require annual maintenance or you downgrade.
  • Overhauled Coaching Carousel: Coach Prestige is now the primary value signal; you see job details, including point budget and AD expectations, before accepting.
  • What's gated: The Rainmaker coach archetype and the largest starting Coach Points bonus are MVP+ exclusive; core Dynasty systems are free for everyone.

What Is the Dynasty Blueprint? (The Budget Engine)

Dynasty Blueprint puts you in control of how your program spends its resources. On the surface, that's simple. In practice, it's the biggest strategic shift in dynasty mode since the mode launched.

In CFB 26 and earlier, your dynasty was deterministic: recruit hard, build the roster, sim the season, repeat. You had infinite time and (within recruiting rank limits) infinite reach. The meta was straightforward: five-star or bust.

CFB 27 flips that. You don't have infinite resources. You have a Dynasty Points budget, a fixed pool that refreshes at the End of Season Recap. That budget splits three ways, and unless you're at a blue blood with a massive allotment, you can't fund all three pillars at once. Most teams have to choose.

That's the shift. The question stops being "how do I recruit the best class?" and becomes "where does my budget give me the best return?" It's a Franchise Mode question, dropped into college football. (It's also why having something track the math for you starts to matter.)

Dynasty Points: How You Earn and Spend Them

Dynasty Points are what your entire season hinges on. Allocate them wisely and you'll have options. Blow them early and you're spending the rest of the year scrounging.

Where Dynasty Points Come From

You earn Dynasty Points three ways:

  1. School grades: Conference Prestige, Brand Exposure, Stadium Atmosphere, and Program Tradition generate a base payout. Blue-blood programs get more; rebuilds start at 150-200.
  2. Postseason bonuses: Bowl wins, conference championships, playoff appearances, and national titles all add to your End of Season Recap total.
  3. AD Expectation completions: Hit your boss's goals and earn bonus points.

You can see the breakdown in-game before the season starts, so you know your budget upfront.

The Cardinal Rule: Points Do NOT Roll Over

This is the single most important strategic fact about Dynasty Blueprint. Dynasty Points are an annual budget. Unspent points are lost at the End of Season Recap.

Use it or lose it.

Hoarding doesn't work. A small-school rebuild gets 200 points, and that's it for the year. You can't save 100 for next year. That forces tough trade-offs: do you spend on hiring coordinators or do you save for recruiting NIL?

The Three Pillars You Spend On

All Dynasty Points flow to one of three categories:

  1. Coaching Staff (support staff + coordinators)
  2. Facilities (upgrade tiers and equipment)
  3. NIL (recruiting and roster retention)

Ohio State might have 800+ points and fund all three pillars. A G5 rebuild on 200 points has to choose: fund staff and facilities, or staff and NIL? You can't do all three.

Timing Windows (When Each Area Opens)

You can't spend all your points at once. Different windows open at different times:

  • Preseason: Hire or fire support staff and coaches. Equipment purchases happen here.
  • Regular season: Recruiting NIL is live. Adjust your offers weekly as you close in on targets.
  • Bowl season: The coaching carousel opens. Hire coordinators with Dynasty Points or let auto-assignment fill the gaps.
  • Offseason (End of Season Recap): Major facility upgrades, Roster NIL adjustments to retain stars, and budget refresh.

Plan ahead or you'll blow your budget on preseason staff and have nothing for recruiting NIL.

AD Expectations & School Demeanor (Your Job Security)

You're not just building a roster anymore. You answer to an Athletic Director, and he measures you against three concrete goals every season.

The Three Goals

Your AD sets three active expectations. They vary by school and difficulty tier, but they always fall into specific categories:

  • Winning national or conference championships
  • Beating rival schools
  • Achieving statistical benchmarks (ranked defense, top-10 scoring offense, etc.)
  • Signing recruits from specific regions or positions
  • Controlling recruiting territory
  • Improving or maintaining facilities
  • Finishing in the Top 25 (or higher)
  • Hitting specific win thresholds

Some goals are firm (fireable if missed); some are stretch goals. Some are one-year targets; others span multiple seasons. You see all three goals before the season starts.

School Demeanor Types

Each program has a Demeanor that determines how much patience you get.

Patient schools let you rebuild. Miss all three goals year one, you're still employed. Take Iowa as a rebuild and you get 3+ years.

Balanced schools watch your trend. Year one is a wash; year two better show improvement, or you're in trouble.

Impatient/Reactionary schools demand results now. Take Ohio State, miss a goal in year one, and the pressure is on immediately.

Here's the key: A 9-win season means completely different things at Ohio State versus Florida State rebuilding. At Ohio State, 9 wins is a failure. At Florida State year two, it's progress. Pick your school's demeanor before you take the job.

Demeanor also affects your point budget. Patient schools start slightly lean (they're okay waiting). Impatient schools inflate the pot to give you a fighting chance.

NIL Is Now Two-Sided: Recruiting vs. Roster

NIL used to be a recruiting tool. Now it's a full management system with two halves: landing players and keeping them.

Recruiting NIL (Landing Players)

When you recruit a high schooler or portal transfer, you make an NIL offer. That offer becomes a Dynasty Points deduction immediately. If the recruit commits to another school, the points refund. If you remove him from your board, refund. But once he commits to you, the points are spent.

The offer amount depends on star rating, position, your school prestige, and how many other offers the recruit has. A 5-star QB at a small school costs 40-50 points. At Ohio State, maybe 30. Prestige matters.

You can adjust weekly, but overpay once and it sticks. Pay a recruit 60 points when he only needs 40, and next year he expects 60. His family members expect 60. You've just inflated your recruiting cost baseline permanently.

Roster NIL (Keeping Players)

At season's end, you see each player's risk of leaving. Raise his NIL and he stays. But recruiting NIL and roster NIL share the same budget. You can't do both.

That's the whole game. Spend 30 points keeping your returning 5-star, or spend 30 landing a new 4-star. Not both.

For a contending team with a solid roster, you're spending on keeping stars. For a rebuild, you're spending on landing portal players. Same budget, opposite needs.

Flipping Commits

Recruiting stages are Open -> Top 5 -> Top 3 -> Verbal -> Hard Commit. The old "Top 8" is gone.

Flip him anytime before Hard Commit. Verbal gets a multiplier that makes him harder to flip away. That's why late-cycle matters: get him to verbal early and other teams have to overpay to flip him.

The Overhauled Coaching Carousel

Coaching staff got a complete refresh. Support staff, coordinators, and your own job-hunting all play by new rules.

Support Staff (Preseason Only)

Support staff are hired/fired preseason only. Miss that window and you're stuck for the year.

Hiring slots depend on Team Prestige. Each level unlocks one slot, max five total. A G5 school gets two or three; Ohio State gets five. Better coaches (Bronze -> Silver -> Gold -> Platinum) cost more but reduce player NIL demands, give you more recruiting hours, and speed up development.

Coordinators (Bowl Season Only)

Coordinators open in Bowl Season. The carousel shows candidates with their interest level and salary. You can offer up to 2x their expected to boost interest. Six offers per side.

Free agents cost 0 points (inexperienced). Elite coaches cost more. Don't hire and you get auto-assigned a random coordinator.

The Carousel for YOU (The Coach)

This is the new part. You can enter the job market and express interest in up to six jobs. Before you accept, you see the full picture: point budget, facility tier, AD's expectations, demeanor, and your projected payout. You're scouting a contract.

A patient school with 500 points but low prestige looks different than an impatient school with 800 points and brutal goals. You can compare.

Coach Prestige is the primary evaluation factor, not Coach Level. You're judged on recent accomplishments.

Accept a job and you're hired. Don't accept and you stay. Each season you earn 0-25 Coach Points for extensions.

Facilities & Equipment: The Five Tiers

Facilities are now a concrete five-tier system. Each tier unlocks equipment slots and grade boosts.

The Tiers

TierGrade RangeEquipment Slots
BasicF1
CompetitiveD- to D+2
PremierC- to C+3
EliteB- to B+4
National PowerhouseA- to A+5

Equipment is short-term buffs: facility grade bonuses, extended duration, reduced Wear & Tear, less health usage, fewer practice injuries. Higher tiers let you equip more items.

Upgrade Mechanics

Upgrades happen once yearly at season's end. One tier per year (can't jump from Basic to Premier). Upgrades take effect next preseason.

Higher tiers need annual maintenance. Skip the budget and you downgrade. That's the trade-off: facilities compound over time. Three straight years at Elite and you're pulling 5-stars without inflated NIL.

What's Actually Gated Behind MVP+ (The Honest Answer)

The core systems are free for everyone: Dynasty Points, AD Expectations, two-sided NIL, facilities, and the carousel. No paywall.

The Rainmaker Archetype

What's gated: the Rainmaker coach archetype (MVP+ only). It has four abilities:

  • Dealmaker: Boosts NIL recruiting influence
  • Budget Booster: Increases your Dynasty Points from school grades
  • Stay Power: Boosts NIL retention impact
  • Contract Incentives: Boosts Dynasty Points from completed goals

MVP+ also gets 150 starting Coach Points. A pre-order got 100 and everyone else starts at 0. That's a head start.

Is it an advantage? Yes. Does it break the game? No. You can win without it. Rainmaker makes resource management slightly easier, but you don't need it.

How the Blueprint Changes the Way You Play (Rebuild Strategy)

Dynasty Blueprint changes how you play, especially on rebuilds.

Rebuilds Are Harder

Small schools got harder. A G5 rebuild gets 150-200 points a year, no rollover. That's hire coordinators OR improve facilities OR compete for recruiting NIL. Pick one, usually. Blue-bloods get 600+ and fund all three. Rebuilds require more planning and patience.

Allocation Beats Recruiting

The best players read the budget. Equipment now or wait for a facility tier? Spend on recruiting NIL or hire a competitive staff that raises your appeal? The skill gap widens on allocation, not recruiting.

Read the School Before You Take the Job

New: Demeanor and point budget are part of the job difficulty now. Impatient + low points = hard mode. Patient + medium = mid-tier. Balanced + high = easier.

Scout before you accept. If you're new, don't take the hardest job.

NIL Is a Zero-Sum Trade-Off Every Offseason

Every offseason: land or keep. Not both (unless you're a powerhouse). In CFB 26 you kept your studs. In CFB 27 you're asking: do I keep this star QB or replace him with a cheaper portal QB and spend the savings on facilities? It's a different game.

Facilities Are the Compounding Play; NIL Is the Sprint

NIL is instant (recruit and feel the impact). Facilities are slow. Upgrade to Premier and next preseason you recruit better. Two years at Elite and you're pulling 5-stars without inflated NIL. Compound. The best dynasties spend year one on facilities (boring) and year four reaping it (OP).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Dynasty Blueprint in CFB 27?

It's CFB 27's new resource-management system. Each season your program earns Dynasty Points, a budget you spend across coaching staff, facilities, and NIL to meet the goals your Athletic Director sets. EA calls it dynasty's biggest change in over 20 years.

Do Dynasty Points roll over in CFB 27?

No. Dynasty Points are an annual budget and do not carry over year to year. Unspent points are lost at the End of Season Recap, so the system rewards spending to your school's situation rather than hoarding.

How do you earn Dynasty Points in CFB 27?

From your school's grades (Conference Prestige, Brand Exposure, Stadium Atmosphere, Program Tradition), postseason bonuses (bowl wins, conference and playoff appearances, championships), and completing AD Expectation goals.

What do you spend Dynasty Points on?

Three things: your coaching staff (support staff and coordinators), facilities (five upgrade tiers and equipment), and NIL (recruiting and roster retention). Bigger programs can fund all three; rebuilds have to choose.

How does NIL work in CFB 27 dynasty?

NIL is split in two. Recruiting NIL helps you land high schoolers and transfers; offers are deducted immediately and refunded if the recruit goes elsewhere. Roster NIL, managed at season's end, lowers your players' risk of leaving. Both compete for the same Dynasty Points budget.

Can you flip recruits in CFB 27?

Yes. You can flip a recruit's commitment any time before they Hard Commit. Verbal commits get a bonus multiplier that makes them harder to flip, and the old "Top 8" stage was removed.

What is School Demeanor in CFB 27?

Each school's personality, which sets how patient the program is. Patient schools tolerate long rebuilds, Balanced schools watch trends, and Impatient/Reactionary schools demand immediate results with little margin for error.

Is CFB 27 dynasty pay-to-win? What is Rainmaker?

Core Dynasty Blueprint systems are free for everyone. The Rainmaker coach archetype (a resource and NIL optimization skill tree) and a starting Coach Point bonus are MVP+ membership perks. It's an advantage, but the main systems aren't behind the paywall.

How many facility tiers are in CFB 27?

Five: Basic, Competitive, Premier, Elite, and National Powerhouse. Higher tiers add equipment slots (up to five) but require annual maintenance. Skip it and the facility downgrades.

How do you rebuild in CFB 27?

Pick your spending carefully. With a fixed Dynasty Points budget you usually can't fund staff, facilities, and NIL at once. Rebuilds lean on facilities (the compounding investment) and targeted NIL while managing the AD's patience. Scout your school's Demeanor before you take the job.
