Cover 4: keep the drive alive

The deep shot isn't always there. Find a run or pass you're happy to call when you need the next first down more than a highlight.

Cover 4 gives the defense four deep responsibilities, but it doesn't tell you the box count or who will jump a short route. Check the run and underneath options before deciding to force a shot.

The read against Cover 4

Look for a linebacker or safety stepping toward the fake, then check the route entering the space he left. Make the defender prove he has committed.

What can shut it down

Quarters defenders can stay with the routes despite the fake. Extra time in the pocket doesn't guarantee an opening downfield.

The read against Cover 4

Check whether both safeties stay deep and the box is light. If the blocking numbers work, make the defense come down to stop the run.

What can shut it down

Quarters safeties can fit the run quickly. Two high safeties before the snap don't guarantee an open lane after it.

Inside Zone averaged 4.59 yards. PA Read averaged 6.58. Check the read and risk before choosing.

Take a few new calls into practice before kickoff

Give yourself options you can actually use. Start with a familiar formation, check the play art, and decide which call fits the down and distance. You don't need to rebuild your whole offense to try something new.

After the game, go back to the plays that surprised you. Keep the clip where a call worked and the one where it went nowhere. Those two reps can tell you more about your next read than a final score can.

A quick note on the numbers

We ran ten Dynasty seasons and combined results for the same play, formation, and set across playbooks. The diagrams come straight from the game. Averages use recorded yard-stat attempts, which aren't always the same as snaps. Coverage refers to the defensive call, not every adjustment after the snap. These results give you plays to try; they don't guarantee yards in your game.

The usage list ranks matched offensive plays by those attempts across all coverages. It measures CPU simulation usage, not popularity among human players. Different formations stay separate, and a goal-line run has a different job from a deep pass.

The play notes explain reads to practice, not why a measured average was high or low.
